An Irish ‘second-chance’ school visits CREPS
For several years now, CREPS has been developing international
partnerships through various programmes, including Erasmus+. It was as
part of this initiative that the Vallon-Pont-d’Arc site welcomed Gillian
Kennedy this week, the coordinator of a ‘Youthreach’ second-chance
school based in Letterkenny, County Donegal, Ireland. This educational
centre supports young people aged 17 to 19 who are seeking to re-engage
with education and training, offering them support through a range of
creative and sporting activities. During a previous visit by the CREPS
to Ireland, in partnership with the Gartan Centre, an initial meeting
took place, which led to the development of a mobility project for these
young people in the Ardèche. From 10 to 15 October, the CREPS in
Vallon-Pont-d’Arc will therefore be hosting a group of around fifteen
pupils from the Youthreach school in Letterkenny for a programme
designed to help them reconnect with nature through a range of
challenges combining heritage and environmental discovery with outdoor
physical activities. The aim of Gillian Kennedy’s visit was therefore to
discover herself the area, visit the CREPS, meet the staff and take part
in some of the activities her pupils will be able to enjoy next October.
The discussions were very fruitful and bode well for excellent future
exchanges. Thanks to the staff at the CREPS and the Aven d’Orgnac for
their time and warm welcome, and to Aigue Vive for the river access.
