My friend the reindeer
At the beginning of my trip to Lapland, I went on a short hike north of Kiilopää Peak to reach a lake in Luulampi. On the way back, I met a reindeer, alone like me.
He stayed close to me and we struck up a friendly conversation.
He explained to me that he was worried about the evolution of humans.
Yes, humans used to hunt it, but they respected it as they respected nature, as part of a relationship of natural sustainability. What's more, humans painted animals on cave walls to represent wildlife in nature. It respected it. In his view, something has changed today. The connection with nature has been lost. He asked me to do something to change that.
Wow! I'm just one human being among nearly ten billion others on Earth, I replied.
But at my level, with all the people I meet every day, my family and friends, my trainees and colleagues, I could try to do something to connect or reconnect people with nature.
Before leaving, my reindeer friend concluded our discussion by explaining that he would rather meet many humans connected to nature than a few humans who are disconnected.
