Magheraroarty is the embarkation point for boats crossing to Tory Island (see), located 14 km off the coast. A long concrete pier has been built there to allow ships to dock and shelter in bad weather. To the east, Port Marsh Bay opens up towards the Dooey Peninsula with its dunes and long white sandy beaches. The peninsula is separated from the coast by a sea inlet, on the banks of which lies a graveyard of old abandoned fishing boats. Off the coast, towards Tory Island, are three small, fairly flat islands, Inishbofin, Inishdooey and Inishbeg. Only the first is inhabited. On the easternmost coast stands the imposing Horn Head. |
