Erasmus + CREPS / Gartan –

Day 4 – In the far north of Ireland
Since its inception, the Gartan centre has always sought to incorporate
a strong social dimension into its school project. To this end, it
collaborates with various specialist organisations, including the
Youtteach second-chance school in Letterkenny, whose mission is to offer
a range of activities enabling young people who have dropped out of
school to regain their motivation and enter the workforce. The trainee
instructors from CREPS Rhône-Alpes were able to visit this school and
speak with its headteacher and trainers to understand their approach,
which makes use of resources such as art, sport and woodwork, as well as
challenges, to engage these young people. One such challenge is a
proposed Erasmus mobility project currently under consideration at CREPS
in Ardèche. Following this highly informative meeting, the team joined
Barry in Buncrana to visit the Lough Swilly Sea Rescue Station. In
addition to his work as a sailing and kayaking instructor in Gartan,
Barry is in fact a seasoned sea rescuer and an experienced skipper of
remarkable rescue vessels capable of responding at any time and in any
sea conditions. Under another glorious sky, our travellers then
continued their journey across the peninsula to the tip of Malin, the
northernmost point of Ireland.
